From Jan 11-26, 2014, the 76th Tata Steel tournament was held in Wijk aan Zee. Levon Aronian won with 8 out of 12 points. Anish Giri and Sergey Karjakin tied for 2nd-3rd with 6.5 points.
From March 13-31, 2014, the FIDE Candidates tournament was held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. Anand won with 8.5 out of 14, followed by Sergey Karjakin, Kramnik, Mamedyarov, Adnreikin, Aronia, Svidler, and Topalov.
From May 8-20, the Us championship was held in St. Louis. Gata Kamsky won for the 5th time on tiebreaks over Aleksandr Lenderman and Varuzhan Akobian.
From June 16-18, 2014, the World Rapid championship was held in Dubai. Magnus Carlsen won with 11 out of 15.
From June 19-20, 2014, the World Blitz championship was held in Dubai. Magnus Carlsen won with 17 out of 21.
From June 19-29, 2014, the US Junior championship was held in St Louis. Kayden Troff won wuth 7 out of 9.
From June 30 to July 6, 2014, the 42nd World Open has held in Arlington, VA. Ilya Smiran, Illia Nyzhnyk, and Conrad Holt all tied for 1st place with 7 out of 9.
From July 19 to Aug 2, 2014, the 101st British championship was held in Aberystwyth, Wales. Jonathan Hawkins won with 7.5 out of 9. David Howell and Mark Hebden tied for 2nd-3rd.
From July 26 to Aug 3, 2014, the US Open was held in Orlando. Conrad Holt won on tiebreak over Michael Mulyar, Giorgo Margvelashvili, Fidel Corrales Jimenez, Illia Nyzhnyk, and Alxander Shabalov.
From Aug 1-14, 2014, the 41st Chess Olympiad was held in Tromso, Norway. China won the gold, followed by Hungary and India in the men’s section. Russia won the gold, followed by China and Ukraine in the women’s section.

From Oct 6-19, 2014, the World Junior Championship was hled in Pune, India. Lu Shanglei of China won with 10 out 13.
From Oct 9-13, 2014, the Millionaire Chess Open was held in Las Vegas. Wesley So won after a tiebreak match with Ray Robson, winning $100,000.
From Oct 2-14, 2014, a FIDE Grand Prix was held in Baku, Azerbaijan. Boris Gelfand and Fabiano Caruna tied for 1st with 6.5 out of 11.
From Oct 20 to Nov 3, 2014, a FIDE Grand Prix was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Dmitry Andreikin won with 7/11. Shakriyar Mamedyarov and Hikaru Nakamura tied for 2nd-3rd with 6.5 out of 11.

From Nov 12-13, 2014, the Tal Memorial Blitz was held in Sochi. It was won by Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, followed by Alexander Grischuk.
From Nov 26 to Dec 4, 2014, the Qatar Masters Open was held. It was won by Yangyi Yu with 7.5 out of 9, followed by Kramnik and Giri with 7 out of 9.

From Dec 6-7, 2014, the 6th London Chess Classic Rapid Open was held, Nakamura won with 9.5 out of 10. Caruana, Anand, and Kramnik all had 8 out of 10 points.
On December 8, 2014, the 6th London Chess Classic Blitz tournament as held. Adams won on tiebreaks over Kramnik and Nakamura. Next were Giri, Anand, and Caruana.

From Dec 11-17, 2014, the SportAccord World Mind Sports took place in Beijing. Alexander Grischuk won the Rapid and Blitz sections. Ian Nepomniachtchi won the Basque section (two games played simultaneously with black and white).
From Dec 12-14, the Nation K-12 championships were held in Orlando, Florida. Samir Sen and Nicholas Desmarais tied for 1st in the 12th grade championship.
